Yesterday the Porthtowan beach scape took on a new look. With rows of Christmas trees buried in the dunes over looking the surf.
The village dune at Porthtowan has been on the move for years. There have been long consultations about it, stabs at tying it down and protecting it, and lots of local disquiet about these efforts. So it’s no real surprise that the latest plan, Christmas trees, has received a mixed reaction.
It’s hoped the trees will naturalise and help prevent erosion, and the gradual shift of the sand east and onto the road. And I have to say that I’m a little bit sceptical but would love to be proved wrong.
We popped down there today and took these piccies. It looks a little surreal, with rows of Christmas cast outs, perched solemnly on the now quite flat dune and staring out to sea, as though contemplating ending it all by dashing into the water.
