happy st. piran’s day!

Gool Peran Lowen! As they say down here in the wild west.

Hope you’re all having a suitably lovely day – this is a picture I took of the Celtic Cross up on the back of Perran Dunes last year, not long after this date. It’s found just a few yards away from the remains of the Lost Church and Oratory of St. Piran, and marks the spot where St. Piran landed and settled in Cornwall – having been tied to a millstone and thrown into the sea by the Irish.St. Pirans Cross, Perran DunesAnd the exciting news this year is that after almost 24 years of a sand burial, the Oratory is being uncovered – the chapel, which was built more than 1,400 years ago was buried in 1980 for it’s own protection. We’ll pop up there in the next week or two to find out what it looks like and take some pictures.
