Over the years Blue Bar has become one of the best known bars on the north coast. The surf is great at Porthtowan and as the Blue is perched just a few strides from the beach, it’s a great place to hang out. If you’re inside without a window seat it’s a fairly non-descript place, worryingly reminiscent of Summer Bay. But it’s a family and dog friendly bar, there’s seating outside for the summer months and three bay windows with great vistas for more blustery days.
There’s a bar menu and they do good coffee and hot chocolate – which is what we tend use the place for after a long walk on the beach. Either that or a cold glass of white in the summer after roasting on the cliffs.
Porthtowan Beach has a seasonal summer dog ban, but you can head round the corner or scramble down the cliff to Lushington, which is – in our opinion – an even better spot in the height of the season.
